As I am writing this, I have started to realize just how special a place like Stillwater is, and just how important it has been in shaping who I am. Now I don’t doubt for a second that no matter what college you go to or what town it is in, you’re going to have an incredible experience. Stillwater is special though, and I have taken it for granted until now. Senior year is a time of excitement, sadness, reflection and engagement. Literally EVERYONE is getting engaged, it’s kind of annoying because you start to realize just how single you are. But hey, i’m happy for ’em. I think the biggest thing to remember is just how hard it is to keep up with the relationships you have made over the last 3 or so years. So senior year, go to that date party, get coffee with your friends, and spend time with those people you really care about.
Its hard to say what everyone’s senior year experience is going to be, but one thing is for sure. No matter who you are or where you are, you’re inevitably going to miss the people and places around you. Below you will find a list of my favorite memories, and things I wish I would have done my first semester of senior year, plus some things I hope to accomplish my second semester.
First, a list of things I am so glad I did.
- Had my last bid day at Pi phi (I got my girl Gracie to run home to me)
- Went to my last home football games as a student (if I could do it again I wouldn’t have skipped a single one)
- Went on spontaneous trips with my friends
- Said YES to going out with my friends, even if I wasn’t in the mood to
- Set out specific times to hang out with my Pi Phi family ( I actually wish I had done this more)
- Took a last minute trip to Texas to go to the state fair
- Visited as many local breweries as I could find
- Had my very last “America’s Greatest Homecoming” as a student
- Had my last formal
- Made lots of new friends
I made so many memories in the last couple of months, but there are still things I wish I would have said yes to. If I had any advice to next year’s seniors it would be this. Study hard, but don’t hide yourself away. Be spontaneous, say yes to fun day trips. Make memories with your friends because one day when you graduate those are the things you’re going to remember, not the grade you got on your online homework in physics. I would never suggest someone neglect their school work. That’s ultimately the reason were all here. Although, it would make such a difference if you got yourself out there and made time for experiences and fun.
For my final semester of college, my goal is to get myself out of my comfort zone and say yes to experiences. I want to give it my all in every situation. I know when I graduate there will be so many people I will be leaving behind. I don’t want to live with any “what ifs” or “I wish I would have”. It goes by so fast, and while I can honestly say I am so excited for the next chapter, I am equally sad to be leaving this one behind. Go Pokes, and Go Pi Phi. You will be missed.
